Whether you are launching a small start-up, growing a business beyond an initial success, or trying to adapt a longstanding business to changing times, we are here to provide responsive and innovative legal counsel as you navigate your entrepreneurial journey.

We focus our practice on counseling entrepreneurs, from small start-ups to longstanding family run businesses, on all aspects of the intersection of law and business. 01. Business Formation

We help clients set up structures and contractual documents with long-term goals in mind so that when the time comes to execute a sale, change leadership, or leave a business to a family member or key employee, those goals are not impeded.

We specialize in providing day-to-day legal advice to business owners, such as reviewing commercial leases, licensing deals, brand partnerships, and insurance contracts; drafting contracts for clients to use with their customers; or advising on next steps when a risk of litigation is present.

02. Contract Drafting & Review

We review, revise and draft any type of contract your business needs to sign or consider. Some examples of the types of contracts we generally work with include contracts with vendors/suppliers, employment contracts, contractor agreements, IP licensing agreements, commercial leases, buy-sell agreements, MOUs on business partnerships, private investment contracts, asset and commodities purchase agreements, employee incentive plans and grants, and phantom equity agreements, to name just a few.

Bassler Law approaches contract review and drafting with the client’s ultimate goal and budget in mind, knowing when to spend time getting each term exactly right and when to focus solely on deal-breaker issues.

03. Strategic Planning

We provide strategic advice on the type of business entity to use for your endeavor, the best state of formation, and the ideal management structure as well as actually forming your business entity, drafting company and partnership agreements, setting up an EIN with the IRS, and obtaining necessary local and state permits and licenses.

We advise on matters including insurance, trademark, copyright, and contractual/business structure protections.

04. Disputes

We represent clients in select complex commercial litigation and arbitration matters and serve as local counsel for clients involved in New Mexico litigation. If your dispute is not the right fit for our expertise, we will help you find the right litigator. We also help clients with whom we have deep relationships manage insurance counsel or local counsel outside of New Mexico, handling much of the client side of document intense and high-stakes litigation matters to control costs and translate legal issues into business-focused takeaways.

We are particularly skilled in pre-litigation disputes, advising clients on resolving disputes prior to suit, including drafting and responding to demand letters, determining whether to pursue litigation, and advising on costs and benefits of litigation as a problem-solving tool. The Bassler Law Firm also has particular expertise in international arbitration proceedings, having appeared before a wide range of arbitral bodies, including the ICDR and the LCIA.
